Shortcut
A card linked to a Shortcut story shares its title, description, status, and estimate with it, edited from either side. One catch: Shortcut won’t let apps create webhooks, so someone pastes a URL into Shortcut once. Until they do, changes only flow from CardBoard to Shortcut.
At a glance
Section titled “At a glance”| Topic | Details |
|---|---|
| Connects | A board to one Shortcut team |
| Workspace connection | The CardBoard workspace records each Shortcut workspace it syncs with, and one outgoing webhook per Shortcut workspace carries updates to every connected board. |
| Member sign-in | Each member who edits linked cards adds their own Shortcut API token, so every change is attributed to them. |
| Fields that sync | Title, description, status, estimate |
| Updates from Shortcut | One outgoing webhook, set up once by hand in Shortcut, within seconds |
| Plan | Pro, Team, or Enterprise |
| Marketplace listing | Not listed yet. Connect from CardBoard. |
What syncs
Section titled “What syncs”| Card field | Direction | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Both ways | |
| Description | Both ways | Both sides use Markdown. |
| Status | Both ways | Uses your workflow’s states. CardBoard matches on the state’s type (unstarted, started, done). |
| Estimate | Both ways | Whole numbers only. A fractional size in CardBoard isn’t sent. |
| Story type | Set when created | Cards you send to Shortcut become features, bugs, or chores. |
| Owners, epic, iteration, labels, comments | Not synced | |
| Position, slice, connections between cards, color, shape, reactions | Never | Position belongs to the map. Rearrange freely. |
Coupled fields, decoupled position
Section titled “Coupled fields, decoupled position”Re-estimate a story in Shortcut and the card’s size updates. Drag the card into a later slice and the story stays where it was. Why position never syncs.
How the connection maps
Section titled “How the connection maps”- Your CardBoard workspace records each Shortcut workspace its members’ tokens belong to.
- Each board connects to exactly one Shortcut team.
- Each card links to exactly one story in that team.
Connect a board
Section titled “Connect a board”- Add your Shortcut token: open your personal Integrations settings, choose Shortcut, and paste a Shortcut API token. The form links to Shortcut’s guide for creating one. You do this once, not per board.
- Open the board, then open the tracker drawer and choose Shortcut.
- Pick the Shortcut team for this board.
- Set up the webhook once per Shortcut workspace. Shortcut doesn’t let apps create webhooks, so the drawer shows a webhook URL. Paste it into Shortcut under Settings → Integrations → Outgoing Webhook. Until you do, changes you make in CardBoard reach Shortcut, but changes made in Shortcut don’t come back.
- Link your first card. Drag a story from the drawer onto the map, or send cards you’ve planned to Shortcut to create stories from them.
Connecting a board requires a paid plan and permission to manage the board.
Who can edit linked cards
Section titled “Who can edit linked cards”To edit a linked card you need to be a workspace member with your own Shortcut token added. Until you add it, the synced fields on linked cards are locked for you. Guests can view, comment on, and react to linked cards.
Disconnect
Section titled “Disconnect”- A board: a board manager disconnects it from the tracker drawer. Cards keep their current content and lose their story links. Your stories stay exactly as they are. The outgoing webhook keeps running for any other boards on that Shortcut workspace; remove it in Shortcut when no board needs it.
- Your token: remove Shortcut from your personal Integrations settings. You’ll need to add it again before you can edit linked cards.
If a story is deleted in Shortcut, its card stays on the map and shows the story as deleted. CardBoard never deletes stories.
Day-to-day
Section titled “Day-to-day”What to link, reorganizations, and migrating off work the same way for every tracker. See Working with your tracker.
