Collaborators

A collaborator is a workspace member or guest’s role on a specific board. Workspace membership decides whether you’re on the team; collaboration decides what you can do on this particular board.

  • Manager — full control of this board. Can rename, share, delete, change the tracker, and change collaborators. Workspace admins are always managers on every board.
  • Editor — can edit content: add cards, move them, add dividers, set outcomes, react, comment. Cannot delete the board or change who else can access it.
  • Viewer — read-only. Can see everything, react, and comment, but cannot edit cards, move dividers, or change structure.

A workspace member without an explicit role on a board still has access if the board is shared workspace-wide — they get the default role the board’s manager set. A guest only has access to boards they’ve been explicitly added to.

Collaboration layers on top of workspace role. A workspace admin overrides any board collaboration role (an admin is always a manager). A member can be Editor on one board and Viewer on another. A guest gets only the roles they’re explicitly granted.

This layering means board-level permissions are about coordination, not security. Sensitive boards live in their own workspace; collaboration roles tune day-to-day permission within a team that already shares trust.
