August 2026

Draw a loop to group cards, a rebuilt Jira integration with true two-way sync, mind maps with Mermaid import, and AI assistants that can search your whole workspace.

New

  • Draw a group. Close a loop around cards and they become a group — an area, journey, or zone, depending on the map type — with a boundary you can move and resize, and membership that follows the shape. One consistent grouping model now runs across every map type.
  • Jira, rebuilt. Connecting Jira is a guided OAuth flow with a site picker, and sync is a real round trip: edits in CardBoard land on the Jira issue, Jira changes arrive on the board live via webhooks, and each synced issue carries a link back to its CardBoard card. The sync drawer names the connected site, flags site mismatches, and surfaces real diagnostics when a connection needs attention.
  • Mind maps. A new map type that starts blank or seeded from a one-line intent, with a color palette per branch — and you can import a Mermaid mindmap block to materialize one instantly.
  • Event storming. The first notation-bearing map type: domain events, commands, and policies, straight from the create-board grid.
  • Activity drawer. A timeline of what’s happened on the board; rows select their card on the canvas, and rollups expand to show every card involved.
  • Backlinks. Type [[ in a card’s prose to reference another card — even on another board — and cited cards show who references them.
  • Rapid capture in the outline drawer. Enter for a sibling, Tab to indent, Shift-Tab to step back out, Escape when you’re done — cards land on the canvas as fast as you can type.
  • Collapse tree branches. Fold a branch on a tree map down to a badge; the layout packs around it, and the collapsed state is shared with the board.
  • Search for AI assistants. Connected assistants can now search the whole workspace and read a specific card, subtree, or slice — retrieval that scales past a single board. Proposals got richer too: batch card proposals, title changes, connection removals, and card types visible right on the ghost.
  • Insert a column of cards. Drop a card between columns on a grid board and a vertical indicator shows exactly where the new column lands.
  • Pending invites, where you’ll see them. Workspace invitations now appear in the workspace switcher and the notification bell.

Improved

  • The canvas reads as material. Cards sit under one overhead light with a contact shadow, column bands take a tonal pole from the board theme, and new cards arrive with a calm fade while their siblings glide aside. On phones and tablets the toolbar becomes a rail.
  • Card colors. A rebuilt palette — eight hues in three registers, ordered like the rainbow on the toolbar, consistent between canvas and card modal.
  • Card details modal. A two-column redesign with dedicated description and acceptance-criteria editors, explicit save, and card type icons in a single glyph slot.
  • Tracker sync feel. Cards dropped from the sync drawer are movable the instant they land and finish hydrating in the background, webhook-applied changes credit the tracker instead of “Someone,” the connect flow is a drill-down instead of tabs, and disconnecting a tracker cleanly unlinks its cards. A health sweep now watches every webhook.
  • Agents in the drawer. Clearer agent vocabulary, a Linear-style connect card, a single invite affordance, and the drawer opens itself once after you create an agent. The MCP toggle moved to the workspace Security card.
  • Help and shortcuts. Support chat is summoned straight from the board’s help control, and keyboard shortcuts open in a modal showing your platform’s actual modifier keys.
  • First paint. Boards render right the first time — no settle-in shuffle.

Fixed

  • An authorization sweep tightened guest and API access: guest links no longer grant access beyond their board, realtime streams require board access, and API listings are scoped to what you can actually see.
  • Groups and boundaries reach collaborators reliably — creates broadcast, boot positioning is correct, and Escape/undo behave during label edits.
  • Image stickers survive being moved and refreshed, and undoing a sticker create cleans up after itself.
  • Connection lines terminate at the cursor while drawing, stay visible when endpoints return, and repaint correctly in Chromium.
  • Paste lands on open cells instead of shoving rows aside, a partial bulk update no longer clears assignees, and a title edit no longer swallows the next click.
  • The over-cap read-only notice speaks once, from the plan banner.

Behind the scenes: the tracker integration architecture was rebuilt end to end — credentials, connections, and sync reconciliation each moved onto a record that owns them — the legacy grouping and card-type tables were dropped, analytics moved behind a first-party proxy, two little-used features (card images and board linking) were retired, and the usual dependency bumps.
