September 2026
CardBoard has a dark theme now. You can also @mention Claude on a card and get proposals back in the thread, and Linear, Trello, and Shortcut all sync both ways. For workspaces that need it, there’s two-factor auth, an audit log, and retention controls.
New
- Dark mode. A full dark theme, offered during onboarding right after you enter your name and switchable any time after. We checked contrast against WCAG AA across the app, canvas included. New boards start on a canvas that matches your theme, and board backgrounds are now neutral Light, Medium, and Dark, plus an opt-in chalkboard.
- Summon your agent with @Claude. Mention @Claude in a card comment and the summon waits for your connected agent. The agent reads the card, proposes changes as ghost cards for you to accept or reject, and replies in the thread when it’s done. You can summon a specific agent by name, and you get one email when a summon is waiting. The Activity drawer shows the whole trail, for example “Claude (via Josh) proposed…, Josh accepted…”.
- Linear. Connect your Linear workspace in Settings and bind a board to a Linear team. Issues sync both ways, including sub-issue nesting, size, and assignee, and each synced issue links back to its card. Cards show the readable issue key, and changes you make are attributed to you in Linear.
- Trello and Shortcut, both ways. Connect a board to a Trello board or a Shortcut workspace from the sync drawer and edits flow in both directions, the same as Jira and Azure DevOps.
- Sign in with Google. Google sits beside email and SSO on the sign-in page, and your Google profile picture becomes your avatar.
- Two-factor authentication. Turn on an authenticator app from your profile; you get ten single-use recovery codes. Workspace admins can require two-factor auth for members (guests and SSO accounts are exempt).
- Workspace audit log. Admins can see sign-ins, invites, membership and role changes, sharing changes, and board deletions, with CSV export. Team and Enterprise keep the full history; Free and Pro show the last seven days.
- Retention and legal hold. Enterprise workspaces can set how long deleted boards are kept (30, 90, or 365 days, or forever) and place the workspace on legal hold.
- Notifications on the board. The notification bell now sits in the board header beside Activity, so assignments, invites, and mentions from other boards reach you without leaving the canvas. It updates live, and replying on a card clears the mentions you just answered.
- Follow a collaborator. Click the crosshair next to someone in the collaboration drawer and your view follows theirs until you touch the canvas.
- More Mermaid imports. Paste a Mermaid
journeyand get a user story map; paste asequenceDiagramand get a process map with one step card per message, in order.
Improved
- What agents can propose. Agents can now propose card colors, a whole subtree in one go, several slices at once, and bounded groups, all shown as ghosts you accept or reject. The proposals drawer groups proposals by the agent that made them, a row click jumps to the card, and Accept all accepts parents before children. Each proposal carries the logo of the agent that actually wrote it, and the MCP consent screen says which account is connecting and what it can do.
- A toolbar that fits the map. The left rail shows only what the current map type allows, and it’s split into separate pills for cards, annotations, and undo/redo. On Event Storming boards the color swatches become the typed stickies themselves, so the toolbar doubles as the legend. Event Storming boards also gained connections and a little more room between cards.
- Keyboard and mouse. Press T to arm the text tool and click to place it. Space plus drag pans again, the middle mouse button pans too, and Space on a selected card starts editing it.
- Mobile canvas. Phones get a single add-card button in place of the desktop toolbar, and pinch to zoom no longer gets interrupted.
- Frozen rows and columns. Freezing the top row or first column is now saved with the board, so it survives a refresh and everyone sees it. Scrolling a frozen board no longer jitters.
- Inserting rows and columns. Hovering Insert in the right-click menu draws a line where the row or column will open instead of shifting the board around; the shift happens on click, as a single undo step.
- Tracker sync. Status changes made in Jira and Azure DevOps appear on the canvas live, and the tracker’s assignee shows in the card’s avatar slot. Size now syncs both ways with Jira and Linear and maps to the right estimate field in Azure DevOps. In the sync drawer, rows open like cards and drag straight onto the board. Assignees follow one rule on every tracker: only workspace members can be assigned.
- Jira setup. Install the CardBoard app in Jira, open Get started, and pick the workspace. Settings › Integrations links each connected Jira site, and uninstalling the app from Jira disconnects it cleanly.
- Guests land on their board. People invited to a board go straight to it, not a workspace dashboard that doesn’t apply to them, and the board-title menu switches between the boards shared with them.
- Folders. Removing a folder now unfiles its boards and leaves the boards where they are. Creating and deleting folders no longer reloads the page.
- Cards. Type icons on the canvas are bigger, the description and comment icons match them, and copies keep their acceptance criteria. Pasting a card onto a different kind of map drops a type that doesn’t belong there.
- Persona boards are now laid out in real zones.
- Faster board loading on large boards.
- Plans. Connecting a tracker is now part of Pro and above. Free workspaces see an upgrade prompt when they try, and boards that were already connected keep syncing.
Fixed
- Uploaded avatars show in the presence stack and people drawer, and avatar images process correctly again.
- Password reset shows its errors instead of quietly reloading the form.
- The card resize corner can be grabbed again, and resizing paints as you drag.
- Right-clicking the lower half of a row no longer targets the row below it.
- Copying a card keeps its type and gives the copy its own identity.
- Text sticker font size buttons work in Safari, and the false “Failed to update font size” message is gone.
- Empathy Map boards open without crashing.
- Assignee avatars update live for everyone on the board.
- Deleting a boundary deletes its group, and CSV export no longer lists groups as rows.
- Tabs open on a deleted board are sent back to the dashboard.
- Accepting a delete proposal removes the card right away, and accepting a proposal whose card is already gone resolves it instead of erroring.
- Dragging a board onto a folder on the Boards page works again.
- Cards exported to or imported from Jira and Trello keep their issue key or card number.
- Boards in a locked workspace open read-only instead of erroring.
- One person can be an admin of more than one workspace.
- Welcome emails reach people who haven’t set a name.
Behind the scenes: a Stripe API upgrade, per-token rate limits on the MCP endpoint, tracker users’ personal data kept out of logs, support for Atlassian account erasure requests, a published security bug-fix policy, tighter limits on sign-ups and guest links, a dependency audit lane in CI, retirement of legacy API keys, and the usual dependency bumps.
